A Saturday away brought rants my way
Exercise: House cleaning.
So this past Saturday I took off to Ames for my regular six week haircut. Wouldn't you know it would piss down with rain just enough to get my clean car dirty only for the sun to return afterward - GRRR! I thought about washing it on the way home but they are predicting rain again for tomorrow so I decided to nix that idea. I figured since it's supposed to be nice from Wednesday on, I would just take care of it then.
The rain, however, wasn't the first aggravation I came across nor was it the last. As I was going around the ramp on the mix-master to transition from one interstate to another, there was a cop car with its lights on parked in the right lane where the on-coming traffic from the interstate I got off of merges in to the interstate I was headed for. Now it wouldn't have necessarily been that big of deal had the guy been sitting up further so the traffic on the ramp could see him but he wasn't. He was down over the hill where you couldn't see him until you were nearly right up on him. The two people that were in front of me almost hit the guy and nearly caused a four or five car pile up. Turns out the guy was parked where he was to let people from a funeral procession merge freely. Not that I don't have respect for those things but freeways and interstates are NOT a good place for them. This particular one nearly caused a few more deaths or serious injuries and interstates do have MINIMUM speed requirements - something I don't think was being met in this case.
The third thing that happened which just kind of topped everything off was my visit to the Evil Empire. When I got there, I could tell by the number of cars in the parking lot it was going to be busy as I would expect for a Saturday afternoon - think maggots on a shit pile. Anyway, I started off next door at the EE's brother's place to get a few things - Milk, OJ, and some cereal. Now although it was quite warm out, I knew I didn't need much from the EE and shouldn't be in there an extremely long time so the stuff I already got next door would probably be ok sitting in the car as it usually is.
After I put the first bunch of groceries in the car, I walked into the EE. I went to get a cart and this girl who obviously had her head misplaced up her ass just stood right in the way even after I said, "Excuse me" twice. UGH! If that wasn't enough, when I went to walk through the second set of doors, all the people who went in before me felt the need to congregate right there in the middle of the walk. I don't know why it is that when people walk into these places their brains seem to fall out of their heads but it really kinda pisses me off. Of course these two things weren't even the worst of my experience there.
I picked up the items I needed in fairly good time and then looked for a place to check out. At first I thought about going to one of the self check lanes, however, they were all full and I've noticed that even though they are supposed to be "fast lanes" most people aren't overly quick going through them whether it be from lack of computer skills or whatever. I finally found a lane that didn't look too bad (no worse than any of the others anyway). There was one person that was halfway through and then another with a lot of groceries ahead of me but for any good checker, it shouldn't have taken more than about ten minutes to get both of them through. Not long after pulling my cart into the lane, I saw there was a problem. Uh oh...I started looking around to see if there was a lane close that I might fare better with. There wasn't so I just stayed where I was at. It didn't take too long to get the problem solved so it was all cool.
When the woman right in front of me started getting her stuff scanned, everything went south - QUICKLY! I don't know what was up with the check out lady but she has got to be one of the most ignorant people I have witnessed in a very LONG time. First, the woman buying the groceries had taken a box of gum off the shelf to buy. After the check out woman scanned the packages, she put them back in the box and then when she went to put the box in the bag, the scanner caught the UPC on it and scanned it. Check Out Dumbass (referred to as COD from now on) stands there and tries to cancel it out I don't know how many times before turning the blinking light on for assistance. The light wasn't even on for thirty seconds and she turns it off only to try the same thing she had been doing ten more times even though no one was coming over to help because she didn't leave it on long enough for anyone to see. *BLINK* *BLINK* This cycle goes on three times. Finally a supervisor comes by and COD calls her over. Turns out all she needed to do was to hit the clear button. *RE*
Not too long after the gum issue, she started having problems with the scale and proceeded to do the same damn thing she did with the gum with three produce items. The "fix" being the same. It was so sad because even the woman she was checking out got to the point where she was telling the woman what she needed to do to take care of the problem. By the time the fourth and fifth produce items came up and shouldn't couldn't get those keyed in right, COD just totally skipped entering them. That really pissed me off. You know with people like her checking shit, it's no wonder prices go up.
By the time it was all over, I had waited for 30 MINUTES for this stupid woman to process two people! I couldn't believe it! Now I'm generally a patient person but this was over the top and I did have milk and OJ in my hatch that I didn't want to spoil. I would have gotten out of the line but by the time I got to my "breaking point", there were already people behind me so I couldn't really leave. It was when I started putting my stuff up on the belt that I realized I had apples and thought, "Oh God, here we go again!" Thankfully, she was able to take care of them without any trouble although I thought she was going to rip a hole in the lettuce packaging trying to straighten the plastic out where the UPC was.
Yah so anyway, Beverly on checkout lane #9 - YOU SUCK!
And now for something completely different....
I watched a couple of movies this weekend. The first one was called Match Point. Very strange film but I liked how it showed the lengths people will go to in order to cover up infidelity and the oddity of "dumb luck".
The second movie was Narnia. When I was little, my mother read the books to me but because it was so long ago, I couldn't remember exactly what the story line was. Although some of the effects were a little hokey (like when the two girls are riding on the lion when he's running and their hair isn't blowing in the wind), I did enjoy it and thought the acting was brilliant.
Last thing for this section...
The Democratic primaries are coming up a week from tomorrow. I'd really like to see Ed Fallon get the nomination but I don't think it's going to happen. I believe that this guy might bring some fresh ideas to the table and I really like the fact that he not only isn't taking money from corporate sponsors but he also isn't running a dirty campaign like the other two are. I guess people just like those who take cheap shots at others better than actually talking about the issues.
Ok....that does it for me.
Til next time...
