Exercise: None today - I was resting off the previous week and preparing for the one to come.
Wednesday when I came home from work, I committed murder. Now before you go calling 911 and reporting me, read the rest of the story. LOL As I mentioned in previous posts, I've been driving my parents' "pickemuptruck" temporarily until my new car is delivered. Well, the thing is just a little too long to park in the garage so I leave it in the drive and enter the house through the garage.
A week or so ago when Ant and I returned from grocery shopping, there was one of those big nasty brown spiders roaming around - based on the pictures I've seen, I would say it was a Brown Recluse. Knowing how vicious they can be, I wanted it dead then but it scurried away before it could be taken care of. I didn't really think too much more about it after that until I came home on Wednesday. As I approached the door, I was getting my key ready and when I went to stick the key in the lock, the little bastard (more like huge ass monster with a body almost as big as a quarter) was sitting on the door jam right beside it. YIKES!!! I looked down on the floor and there was a rubber mallet the looks like a small version sledge hammer. I picked that up and gave the spider whack light enough to make sure I didn't damage the door. It was enough to knock it to the floor but not enough to kill it. A couple more whacks (complete with psycho theme going through my head. LOL) and it was dead. At first I was going to pick it up and throw it out and then I decided to leave its little carcass there as a warning to any other little bastards that might be thinking about coming in. LOL
Thursday evening was the Paul McCartney concert. My mom and sister came to my house about 5pm and shortly after we left to go eat at PF Changs before going downtown. I couldn't help but laugh at our waiter. He was probably 20 at best and calling my mom, my sister, and me girls . Oh yah, I think he also called me hun too. LOL When we got done there, we made our way downtown. For some reason my mom and sister decided driving through the city would be better than going down the freeway (I think they thought there would be a ton of traffic) - can't say I agreed with it.
We parked the car at a ramp quite a few blocks away but it was worth it because we didn't have to deal with a crowd and it was a few bucks cheaper. As we walked up to the venue, we could see other people headed that way but not nearly as many as we thought we might. When we got about a block away, the line really started but it was constantly moving and everything went really smooth getting in unlike previous concerts at the same place. Hopefully Bon Jovi will go just as well since it too is a sell out.
The concert itself ~ all I can say is WOW! Even though we were sitting in the nosebleed section at the opposite end of the arena from the stage, we had a really good view. Actually, I don't think there is a bad seat in the house other than maybe some of the floor seats toward the back. The only thing I didn't like about the place is that the seating is very steep, there is too much cushion in the seats making them feel even smaller than they are, and no leg room.
The show started about 5 or 10 minutes late which isn't bad and I don't think it had anything to do with the fans not yet being in the building. It started off with this DJ doing an absolutely awesome mix set that lasted about 20 minutes or so. Once that was over, there was this quick biography show about Paul that was played on the three big screens above the stage. As soon as that was over, Paul came out and played a variety of songs spanning his career for nearly three hours and only taking a break right before the first encore (I think there were three). At 11 my mom and sister were ready to leave because they were getting tired - wimps! I was a little disappointed because I really would have liked to seen the full show but I don't think I missed more than about five minutes according to what my co-worker who also went to the show said.
One thing I can say is that you can certainly tell this guy has money to put into his stage show. He had a stage that was made of those white backlit tiles and the back end of it curved up. Much of the light show was actually in the floor! Where the bent up stage left off, there was a screen the extended the rest of the way up to the lighting rig that was used for various displays. If that was enough, he also had pyrotechnics which were used toward the end of the show and that were absolutely fabulous. If any of you have the chance to see this show, I highly recommend it. That was one of the few concerts I've been too that I can honestly say I got my money's worth and more from.
It was about midnight when I got home and I still hadn't found the props I had been looking for to use with my "costume" for the Halloween party we were having at work on Friday. I started on another hunt but after an hour still came up empty handed and was starting to stress a little about what I was going to do. I decided that more than anything I needed to get to bed because the night before had been a long night and a second one in a row wasn't going to do me any good. I took a shower and it was 2am before I made it to bed - not good when you have to be up at 5:30.
Friday morning I had decided that I would just wear a red skirt and shirt along with some devil horns we had from last year but as I got to thinking about it, I knew I really didn't want to do that if for no other reason than I just felt like wearing something comfortable. That's when it came to me....I would wear all black, tie a shot glass around my neck, and say that I was a shot in the dark especially since it was so descript of the scrambling I had to do. LOL Ok, so it wasn't the most done up costume but hey I should be given an A just for effort and creativity considering the time crunch I was under and how tired I was. LOL
There were some that didn't participate but most of the office did. Some of the business managers came in with costumes on that you would have never thought you would see them in so that made it really fun. Most everyone brought in some sort of food for lunch and afterward we had an announcement of the person with the best costume, a scavenger hunt, and a pumpkin carving contest.
The winner of best costume went to a business manager that dressed up like a heavy metal rockstar complete with tats and eyeliner. I swear the guy was a dead ringer for Nikki Sixx. What made it so funny though is to talk to him, you would never think he would come dressed like that. He's usually very quiet and mild mannered. LOL
The funniest moment of the hunt was when one of the guys was going through all the filing cabinets we have up by the foyer and couldn't find anything but when I looked in one of the drawers across from the ones he was looking in, I found something first crack. He said, "Why you little...." and I said, "go on you know you want to call me a bitch." LOL Can you tell how much we love each other at my place of employment? LOL
I didn't win the hunt although I got more items than a lot of people did. I was, however, part of the winning team when it came to the pumpkin carving (I did most of the carving work). I took a picture of the top two winning pumpkins which I am including in this post. Ours is the one with the kitty on it. Our team was the only one that actually did something different than a jack-o-lantern type face. One of the teams even went so far as to do a face and use some of the pumpkin "innards" as boogers coming out its nose. Yep, I work with some pretty gross people too in case your wondering. LOL At least it was all in good fun.
Not bad for a 30 minute time restriction. :)
Friday night when I got home from work, I crashed. I curled up in the chair in front of the tv and proceeded to nap with the cat for a couple of hours I was so dead tired. I woke up, had dinner, then fell asleep in front of the tv again for about an hour before finally getting to bed. I think I slept something like nine hours and I still had a nap Saturday before going out grocery shopping. That night I ended up watching Stayin' Alive. Don't ask me why. I suppose it had to do with the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack being my favorite album when I was a child (that was back in the day when 8-track was still around LOL) and not being old enough to really have interest those movies when they first came out because they didn't involve the muppets. LOL Lemme tell you, I quickly found out that I didn't miss anything by not seeing them sooner. I'm still trying to figure out what kept me from turning the thing off and going to bed it was that bad! LOL
Today was a pretty low key day. It was cloudy and drab outside (it actually had rained quite a bit during the wee morning hours) and I really didn't feel like doing much. This weather has been playing havoc with my sinuses and my stupid allergies can't decide if they are going to stay or go so I decided to make today a veg day. I spent most of it watching tv (I know, unusual for me) and napping. I've got another concert this week (Bon Jovi) and I want to make sure I get enough sleep in so that I won't be too wiped out when I go into work the next day. Definitely don't want a repeat of the sleep deficit I had this past week on Friday. The really good news about the concert is that I was able to get a buyer through eBay for the three extra tickets I had and so I won't be out the $230. :)
And now for something completely different......
Check out the crap that's going on in DC - WOW!
Alright I'm outta here. I gots laundry to fold before bedtime.
Til next time....
