Happy V-Day/Anniversary to me!
Exercise: None. I decided to take the night off last night from skating. I was going to go but then decided against it. I thought I would just take the evening to rest in the hopes this cold (which hasn't been too horrible) will go away sooner. Besides, it will probably do my toe some good to take the week off. I'm still puzzled as hell when it comes to what I did to it. I also had Chi begging for me to stay home and spend some quality time with him so that made it even more worth it to stay home.
So Wednesday marked the 8th anniversary of when Chi and I got married. Although many couples choose to go out and celebrate an event like this, we chose to once again have a nice meal at home. Quite honestly, I think in many cases the food is better since you can prepare it just the way you want, and the whole setting is much more cozy. Of course when number 10 comes around, we may just have to trip somewhere since that will be more of a milestone.
The downside was that I wasn't feeling very well because of that cold which decided to inhabit my body. It was all I could do to make it to the store and pick up a few things I needed for dinner without passing out but I showed it who was boss in the end.
The menu for the evening was the following:
Linguine with homemade marinara sauce and garlic bread
Chocolate dipped strawberries with white coconut chocolate drizzled on top
Strawberry bellinis (I'm not a drinker and can't really stand the taste of alcohol, but I have to say these were really good).
Now I usually do a decent job when it comes to cooking but I was really please with how everything turned out. Not only did the food taste excellent if I do say so myself, I thought the presentation wasn't half bad either considering I had never tried presenting pasta like the chefs do or the fact that I hadn't ever made the fancy looking strawberries before.
I think Chi must have liked it pretty well too. I mean he did say it was good and all but considering the fact that he was scarfing down the leftovers the next day kind of says it all.
There was one thing that did piss me off during this day other than my cold. Dumbass John McCain decided he needed to give us a recorded phone call right when I was in the middle of making everything. The first time the phone rang, I didn't answer it and figured if it was someone who really needed to get a hold of one of us, they would call back. About a half hour later, the phone rang again so I figured I should probably pick it up. Luckily I was at a point where I could stop and do so. I run up the stairs as fast as possible to catch it before whomever hangs up and as soon as I pick the thing up and say hello, I hear dumbasses voice on the other end of the line. I was soooo disgusted! I mean what the hell kind of politician calls people on Valentine's Day of all days? That's just stupid! Even if I had some remote liking for the guy, that would have killed any chance of getting me to vote for him. What an idiot!
And now for something completely different...
I see that Rush Limbaugh has once again shown just what a total bigoted gas bag he is by saying Obama should "renounce" his race and just "become white" because Obama made a statement saying, "If you look African - American in this society, you're treated as an African - American." Quite frankly, I think Obama is right on target because you can bet had his skin been white, you wouldn't be hearing all the crap you do about whether or not the US is ready for a black president even though he is in fact 1/2 black. It amazes me there are people out there that still listen to this asshole and think he's just the greatest. Obviously they had a lobotomy at some point in thier lives.
Next up are the global warming naysaying dumbshits who have recently reared their ugly little heads on the MySpace political forum once again. I think the most laughable claim they've been making has to do with it not possibly being for real because temperatures have been extremely cold the last couple of weeks. Ok dumbasses, let's get something straight here. Global warming refers to the average temperature of the atmosphere (you know that area that surrounds the Earth and has about five layers a couple of which actually get warmer the farther up you go) and the temperatures of the oceans. Because this problem is based on an average planet temperature rather than a day to day local temperature, it's very possible to have below zero weather and still have a heating of the atmosphere and oceans. Not to mention, even though the weather has been quite cold, it's still not like it used to be years ago. I can remember when I was a kid, it snowed a hell of a lot more than it has in the last few years. I can also remember days when we would have -40F windchills or colder (and that was the high during the day!) for a few days in a row. I don't remember there being any days that cold for quite some time.
I guess the thing I really don't understand about the naysayers is...What the hell is the big deal if it should turn out that there isn't a real problem? I mean given 90% of scientists or more do believe there is merit to the idea of global warming so more than likely there is reason for concern but even if they are wrong, what's so bad about taking percautions? Are you people really so self-indulgent that you can't give up a few things to at the very least make the air a little bit nicer to breathe or at the very most prevent catastrophic consequences? Sad. Really sad.
Alright people. I'm outta here.
Til next time.....
