Fuck you Axl Rose and the bus you rode in on

Exercise:

This would be the statement I thought I was going to have to drive into Mr. Ego's brain loud and clear if GNR didn't put on one hell of a show after making us wait so damn long for them to take the stage this past Friday night (or should I say Saturday morning?).

As I mentioned in a previous post, I originally wasn't going to attend this show, however, my second oldest nephew really wanted to go and his mom didn't want his 18 year old friend driving nor did she want the two of them hanging out at a concert alone. After my experience of wanting very badly to attend Def Leppard when I was 14 and not having anyone to take me plus having my brother tell my mom it was a show I shouldn't attend because of lewd things they might say or do on stage, I vowed that any kid in the family behind me was never going to have to suffer as I did which is why I took the kiddo and his buddy.

Now I knew that we were in for a long night as TBB had warned me GNR hadn't been taking the stage until late at previous shows and the fact that there were more bands than just Sabastian Bach & GNR, but nothing prepared me for this gig - HOLY SHIT! First of all, there was an act there that, had I known about them, I don't know if I would have been so willing to take two sixteen year olds or at least I would have prepared to get them out of the arena during the time they were on stage. It consisted of five women calling themselves the Suicide Girls. Basically what it boiled down to was a 30 minute strip tease. Granted they couldn't get completely naked but regardless, it was just tacky as hell. I did think it was humorous though when they brought them out for a second time (supposedly because GNR was delayed) and the crowd booed them. LOL

Second of all, GNR didn't take the stage until 12:30AM - yah you read that right. They didn't even show up until an hour and a half after most concerts let out and let me tell you had the show not been good, I would have been pissed as hell to the point where I would have hunted Axl down to give him a HUGE piece of my mind. Fortunately for him, the show was better than what I was expecting - just over 2 full hours chalked full of pyro, high intensity music and they sounded pretty tight although I'm thinking they may have been using some backing tracks because I noticed the same sort of thing going on with the vocals that happened at Motely Crue. There were parts where it appeared that Axl was singing but nothing could be heard. Then again, maybe it was just issues with the wireless mic. The thing I got a kick out of the most was the majority of what they played was the stuff I remember listening to when I was about the same age as my nephew and here he was lapping it up.

I must say the crowd wasn't that big really. They had the floor open as a general admission area and I think at most it was maybe 1/4 - 1/3 full. Not to mention the people down there seemed to be extremely well behaved which I found rather shocking. I think GNR kind of shot themselves in the foot though by making the crowd wait so long. Axl tried to give the excuse of weather delaying them but anyone with a little commmon sense knows that was a total bullshit excuse. I mean the crew and equipment were there before the show even started and everything was already set up. Then there's also the fact that all the other acts were running on time. Give it up Axl - we all know you're just an attention whore. Anyway, a good portion of the crowd left early before GNR even took the stage because they were tired of waiting so they ended up playing to an even smaller crowd. Then again, I guess GNR got there money in the end so that's all that really matters. *RE*

I did manage to sneak my camera in - not that I really had to be that sneaky since security was a joke. I had the camera in its case under my sweatshirt. When the woman pat me down, I told her it was my purse. Rather than her insisting on having a look, she said ok then asked if I had a camera. I said, "No" even though I did and she was willing to take my word for it. Not that it really mattered anyway. Since we were sitting up in the balcony and off to the side of the stage (didn't want to get down on the floor with the kiddies since I didn't know how rowdy the crowd might be), I really couldn't get any decent pics.

I didn't end up getting home until 20 to 6 in the morning because I had to take A's buddy home then drive A to my parents' house since he was staying with them for the weekend before I could go home. At least A really liked the show and that's the most important thing because it was my early birthday present to him. Later this month we're supposed to be going to Disturbed in Cedar Rapids which should be interesting. They're a little bit heavier than most of the stuff I typically listen to but I told A if there is ever a gig he wants to go to and he needs someone to take him, I'm the one who can make it happen. :) What kind of shocked the shit out of me was when he said he would actually like to go see Def Leppard. Downside is that they are done touring for awhile but I plan to get him to one of their future shows come hell or high water and I shall definitely make a point of trying to make it possible for him to meet at least one of the guys. :)

Ok kiddies - lunchtime is over....got to get back to work.

Til next time....
