Who the hell does he think he's fooling?
Exercise: 100 push ups, 400 crunches, and 50 leg lifts.
So I sat down and watched Dubya's blah blah last night concerning his plan for those who didn't enter the US legally. You know every time I hear this guy froth, I can't help but have the thought "Do you think the American people are really that stupid?". This time was no different. Sure there are some out there who aren't as bright as others but it would seem that some are starting to smarten up when it comes to Bush even to the point of apologizing on public forums because they voted for him.
For any of you who watched this poor excuse for a president crap from his mouth and actually thought he's doing something by coming to a good compromise, he's got you duped! It was more than obvious he was just trying to drum some votes and failing miserably.
Let's go over the 5 main points that he referred to.
Secure The Borders
First of all, he sends the National Guard down to the southern border (keep in mind here the NORTHERN border is less secure but he makes no mention of it) and then proceeds to tell people he's not militarizing anything because those troops won't have any "power". Um yah....Even if they don't, I think it still sends that message and it's not a good one. Not only that, with Dubya running things, it's hard to tell what he might try to do. I mean he did go to war illegally and all. Sorry but things are just starting to look a little too "Berlin" to me with mini Hitler running the show.
I believe something does need to be done with our borders but only with patrol officers and nix the fence. Making people feel like criminals even before they get here is rude to say the very least not to mention it portrays that we aren't friendly and rather stuck up. Can we say gated community? What a bunch of bullshit! And people wonder why those in other countries have the opinion of us that they do. *RE*
Temporary Worker Program
Now we all had to know that Dubya would work in his corporate agenda when it comes to this issue. Then again, he's got to be crazy if he actually thinks he's finding middle ground here. The only ground he's "finding" is his own - he didn't really say anything last night that was new from when he previously spoke on the subject.
This sort of program he's suggesting basically provides a revolving door so there can be a steady stream of people coming in here to support us then be forced to go back home. Once there, they can then attempt to come back permanently. What a load of crap. Anyone who knows anything about the immigration process understands that there are only so many visas issued every year which means if all those temp workers want to come back, more than likely some aren't going to be able to at least not right away. Nothing like giving someone something only to take it away again. Just one more thing that suggests Bush really does think he's a direct line to God and has power over everyone else's lives.
I'd also like to know how this adds to increased security. If you ask me, it just complicates it all the more because you are bringing more people in, increasing paperwork, etc.
Tamper-proof Identification
Ugh....give me a break. There is no such thing. Someone always finds a way around such things. Forget trying to tamper-proof an identification card. Require everyone (citizens, immigrants, and travelers coming into the US) to be digitally fingerprinted. As "big brotherish" as it sounds, even I would go for that especially since it could provide benefits beyond just keeping those who are trying to milk the system from doing so. For example, it could help crimes committed by first time offenders to be more easily solved. It could also help with abducted children.
I do have to admit I actually laughed at his statement about employers not currently having a way to verify documents and work eligibility. Um guess someone forgot to tell him about the free service that the official social security website offers where an employer can register and check SSNs.
Opposition To Amnesty
Really? Doesn't sound like it to me since he's talking about giving the majority citizenship in the end. Yah...that's really middle ground. WHATEVER! Now while I agree with him that deporting millions of people just isn't realistic, I don't think granting citizenship is the way to go. I stick by my thought of legalization but with the restriction that no one may pass the status of permanent resident. This, I think, truly is the MIDDLE ground. By doing this, everyone would be legal, paying taxes, and be given the same human rights as everyone else. They wouldn't, however, be allowed to vote, hold office, serve on a jury and/or in the military among other things.
Congressional Passage Of Comprehensive Legislation
I agree that we can't build a unified country by provoking anger and fear, however, when he mentioned the bit about not exploiting the issue of immigration for political gain, I nearly fell off my chair. Damn hypocrite he is. Sorry Bushie baby but I was one of the many that saw right through your stunt.
The worst part about it all is the cost that could come into play. Knowing how Bush operates, he'll probably charge it back to the people going about things legally to come into this country which it turn will make it even more difficult for those who really need the chance at it. Then again maybe he'll give the poor already here a hidden tax raise and make them think they are getting a cut. Yet again, maybe he'll just do both since that is how "fair" tends to come out in his mind. YIKES!
And now for something completely different....
I was shocked to hear that Chris was voted off American Idol. If that doesn't say fixed contest, I don't know what does. They tried to play it off as people not voting but I'd like to know how that's possible. I tried for the full two hours after the show and I couldn't get through. At least Chris most likely built up enough of a fan base that he will be able to more than make it on his own. The other plus is that Taylor is still there. I really hope he wins now. I can't stand Elliott's nasty warble and I'm just not so impressed with Katherine anymore. Regardless of what happens, I don't think I will be watching the show anymore after this season just because it seems like a sham even more than it already did.
I've now seen both a Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice on the road (both in black). Those are two really sweet looking cars! I almost wish now that I would have held off for one. On the other hand, I'm glad I didn't. I really love the car that I have and I do like having the option of a backseat area. That's something that neither the Sky nor the Solstice have.
Otay....that does it for me tonight.
Til next time.....
