Some more about earlier this week and a humorous blonde moment
Exercise: None - no time or energy this evening.
So here it is Thursday already and I've still got things to tell about from the beginning of the week.
TSSB and I didn't make it back home until 6am Monday morning. It was actually more like 6:30 for me because that's the time I got to my house. TBB had a fish crisis that required a 3am run to Wally World which put us behind. I had planned to meet Chi for lunch at 11:30 which meant getting up by 9:30 so I had 3 hours of sleep at best. The weird part is I didn't feel all that sleepy or tired until the moment I laid down. I had even contemplated going out for a run (yes, you read that right - a run) rather than going to bed. I knew that wouldn't be in my best interest though because I had a full day ahead of me so I laid down instead.
9:30 came way too fast but I managed to get up, get ready, and make it downtown by 11:30 for lunch. Some of Chi's coworkers (the usual bar gang except for 1) and a wife of one of them joined us so it was a good time. PIB (one of the two overly obnoxious ones) kept trying to unsuccessfully steal my cell phone so I had to put him in his place a couple of times. I was also given the low down on how much crap my husband had been packing away at work. From what I was told, someone had given him some left over Easter candy that he wasted no time digging into and he also had a piece of two different cakes that were brought in all before lunch. At the restaurant he ate a full plate of pasta and had two (count em TWO) desserts! I'm guessing he also guzzled down at least one 32oz mug of coffee too. The totally sick part of this.....he's just over 6' tall and weighs all of 130lbs. BASTARD!
After I left his office, I headed to my parents' house to meet up with my mom, cousins, and eldest nephew. I swear my mom is becoming more and more scatter brained the older she gets. Sometimes I have to wonder if it is an early sign of Alzheimer's or something - kinda scary to think about. I had told her I was having lunch with The Englishman and would be there between 1 and 2. She said, "Ok. We'll be here." I arrive and the only one at the house other than furbaby Sadie is my nephew. He told me that the rest of them had taken off about an hour earlier to tour a tv station that a woman my mom knows works at. I was a little perturbed when he told me that since my mom had actually been the one who invited me to visit and plans were made for a specific time. Later when she got home she said something about she was going to invite me but she knew I was going to lunch and didn't know if I would be able to make it so she decided not to call. Gee thanks mom!
When my nephew and I went over to the balloon field the last time I visited, he had asked about being on a crew. When I saw him Monday, he said that he signed up and had actually gone out that morning. He told me that it was lots of fun but also lots of hard work. I can imagine so since you are talking about launching something that when packed up on the ground weighs a couple of tons and when inflated is about the same height as an eight story building. Anyway, here's a pic of the balloon he is helping out with. I can't remember the guy's name but I do know that he is from Houston, TX.
Later Monday evening when the balloons started to go up again, my cousin, her daughter, and I walked over to the balloon field to watch the last few launch and the "competitors" come in from an offsite location. The challenge that evening was to pull a flag off a pole and knock it down. They were also dropping small sandbags on a large orange X target to score points. The first two to come in each got a pole down but no one got the third. There was also at least one or two that got their "baggy" almost dead center on the X. We also got to see my nephew's balloon which is when I got the pic. The pilot didn't really have a chance at one of the poles but he did do a decent drop. When all the balloons taking off from the field had cleared, the fire truck they keep "on hand" took off which was a little odd. We couldn't see anything and thought maybe it was going to an emergency elsewhere. As it turned out, I heard on the news the next day that one of the balloons came down a little too low and got snared in some powerlines that run along the west side of the field which is why the truck took off. Thankfully the balloon wasn't actually up in the air and no one got hurt although it sounded like it must have spooked the pilot quite a bit since it was said he is thinking about not returning next year. Funny....he won't return to a place where there have been a handful of minor accidents in the 30 some years my hometown has hosted the races but I bet he'll be going to the other places where they have had MAJOR incidences including death. I've got some other pictures from that evening but I will post them later after I go through them. I'm hoping that I will make it back there tomorrow evening for one more flight so I can get a few more pics. :)
And now for something completely different.......
I pulled a totally blonde moment. On Saturday, Chi changed the oil in my car for me and then spent all day thoroughly detailing it. Lot of good it did since it rained Sunday on the way to the concert, then a little on Monday and Tuesday morning when I was on my way to work. I swear someone ratted me out to the rain God or something - BASTARD! Anyway....Every time Chi changes my oil, he will rev the engine until it redlines. I know this really isn't too bad for the car and supposedly helps to push out any clogs that might be in there but I just tend to cringe every time I hear it done especially since my car isn't getting any younger if ya know what I mean.
Well, Sunday when I took off to pick up TSSB, I couldn't help but notice that the accelerator felt strange and the car just didn't seem to have the same get up and go that it did before. I was a little worried because we were about to embark on a two hour drive and I didn't want us to get stranded anywhere. By the time I got to TSSB's house, I decided to chance it and ask Chi if there was maybe something that could have happened when he was revving the engine. Although things felt a little weird, the car seemed to drive fine so I thought maybe it was just all in my head kinda like when people think a car feels different after someone else has driven it.
When I met Chi for lunch, I mentioned it to him but he didn't think there was anyway what he had done could have caused the problem but he did say that he may have gotten some water on the spark plugs so that could be causing the sluggish feeling. By the next day it seemed a little better so I thought maybe that was all it was but the peddle still felt funny. Tuesday on my way home from work when I was stopped at a light, I decided to take a look down at the peddle to see if I could spot anything wrong. It was kind of cramped so it wasn't the easiest thing to do. When I took a gander, I could only see half the peddle and immediately thought, "What the hell???" I looked back up and moved with traffic to the next light where I was stopped and took the time to look again. It was then that I discovered what the problem had been all along. Somehow when the floor mat was put back in the car, it got adjusted so the edge of it was covering the left half of the accelerator peddle. As soon as I moved it back into its correct position and stepped on the gas to go it took off like a bat out of hell. LMAO I can't believe I hadn't taken the time to more closely inspect down there when I first thought something was wrong. Yep, I had my worst blonde moment yet! LOL
Alright...I'm outtie. One more day of work for the week. Tomorrow is store room clean up day so hopefully we will get some killer samples. :)
Til next time.....
