WTF???

Miles Run: 0
Other Exercise: 50 pushups, 200 crunches, and 100 leg lifts

Last night after work I went downtown to meet with a couple of guys from the company making one of the job offers I received. I have to admit, it wasn't too bad an offer. If you take the base salary plus what Ant and I would save in parking by commuting together (this company pays for ramp time) and estimate the possible incentives I could receive off of last year's figures, it would total close to a $10,000/year raise for me. What's more, I would get my own office with windows that open - WHOOHOO!

The downside to all of this is that because of the different start times Ant and I would have (he starts at 7:30 but arrives closer to 7 and I would start at 8), I would find myself having to waste nearly an hour every morning. In addition, they only are offering a half hour lunch with the possibility of having an hour every so often (time made up of course) so I could meet up with Ant and some of our friends for lunch. Not only that, I would also have to start all over again when it comes to vacation. I'm up to three weeks where I am now but if I take this job, it would be knocked back to two and I probably wouldn't even get that much this year because we are four months in already. I also am a little concerned about "fit". The guys are nice but they just seem to be a little more dry than I would like especially compared to the guy I work with now.

I'm just really stuck with this one. I really like the money but I don't know if I like the trade offs that come with it. SIGH My only other hope right now is getting a nice hefty raise where I am at. Although money isn't the biggest factor for me wanting to leave, I think if the raise was good enough, I could stick it out there a bit longer - at least until the new year.

My friend told me today that the guy I mainly work with has talked to her and is sweating bullets that I might leave. I guess he was asking her if he should say something to me or go straight to my supervisor to see what kind of strings he could pull. Poor guy. I have to admit though as annoying as the guy can be at times, I really do enjoy working with him. Unlike some businessmen, he's approachable and has a sense of humor. I told my friend that if he could get me a $6000 raise and an office with a window, I would stay but that I thought he had a snowball's chance in hell of it happening. She asked me if she could mention it to him so I said sure as long as it wasn't in a way that made it sound like I was "fishing". She said she would so I guess I will have to wait and see what happens. If she is going to do it though it will have to be soon. I have to give a decision on the job downtown tomorrow. Then again, I have a performance review tomorrow so maybe I will just see what I can work out with my supervisor.

As for the other position I was offered - the one from the company that I really liked and thought would be a perfect fit, I called and left a message for the woman this morning to see if they would be willing to up the starting pay by $1000 and increase the vacation time from two to three weeks. She called back and left me a message saying they couldn't and she was taking that as me declining the offer. When I heard her say that, I was like WTF??? I didn't say that I wouldn't take what they offered, I just wanted to know if they would be willing to negotiate. DAMN! I thought about calling her back and telling her that but then I decided not to because I got to thinking that if the company could write me off that easily over one question, it might not be such a good place after all. Not to mention I got the feeling that there is a lack of inter office communication which I don't see as a good thing.

If nothing else, there is still a tentative interview for the company just up the road from where I live. Again I have a feeling I would run into the vacation issue and maybe a possible "fit" issue but depending on what they might offer me, I might be able to overlook the time off bit and I don't think the "fit" issue would be as concerning as the place downtown especially since it seems like the tasks would be more "me".

Christ! I never knew job hunting could be more stressful than being on the job itself. UGH!

Well, that Eldard dude is on again so I'm off to veg for awhile and try to take my mind off all of this.

Til next time.....
