A very iiiiiinnnnnnnnteresting day
Today started out like most days but that was about it for the similarity. Sometime during the midmorning hours, I heard one of my co-workers talking on the phone. She said something like, "WHAT?! Are you sure?!" I then heard a couple of other co-workers over by her telling her to "leave it - just go" and asking if she needed someone to drive her to which she replied, "Yes.". I didn't know exactly what was going on but I knew it couldn't be good.
A little later on, a regional for one of the clients I work with stopped by my desk. He was bringing me my "bonus" I was promised in December for coming in on a day off a couple of days before Christmas. Now normally I don't do overtime not only because my company doesn't allow it except in special circumstances but also because I put in my forty or so hours during the week. The weekends, weeknights, and vacation/sick leave are MY time. The only reason why I decided to do it this particular time was because I knew I was going to be out and about that day anyway and I was told the regional would make it worth my while (to me, that would be a minimum of $500). I found out today that "worth my while" translates into $100 to this "big wig".
When I found out that was all the guy gave me, I was PISSED!!! Ok, so $100 for an hour's worth of work isn't too shabby, however, when you take into consideration the fact that it took me over two days to earn that hour of vacation (at my regular rate, I make over $300 in that time) it sucks! The other thing that has me irritated is the fact that my supervisor who also works with this client was called in to the office when I was and even though I did all the work, she stayed there the full time I did and the regional is going to give her the same little "gift" he gave me.
The next "holy shit how much worse can this day get?" came at lunch time. The co-worker who drove the other to wherever, was in the kitchen when I went in for lunch so I decided to ask her what was going on. She said that the woman's mother called and told her that her dad had died - how awful! The woman I spoke with thought that maybe since this was an older couple, the mother just thought the father had died but the mother was a nurse so you would think she would know when someone is dead. I guess as it turns out, the paramedics were still at the house when they got there and the guy was still alive (they think he had a massive heart attack) but I don't know if he is still ok.
At the same time I was being told about this, I also found out that my friend that I work with had to be taken to the emergency room early this morning. She had stayed home yesterday because she wasn't feeling well but I guess it got a LOT worse. Turns out she has influenza. I guess she told the woman I was talking to that she wanted to come back tomorrow but my supervisor wasn't sure she wanted her back in the office because what she has could be very contagious.
Surprise number three and four arrived when I got home. I picked up the mail and then drove around to our house. Before I came in, I dug my cell phone out of my bag and noticed I had a message. It was from a friend of mine who I have never met face to face or talked to on the phone but have spoke to over the internet and through text messages almost on a daily basis over the last three years. He had been out of the country for the past month so we haven't been in touch and I was really wishing he was around to vent to when I got that bonus. Well, as it turned out, this message was sent about the same time the thought was going through my mind. It's weird, he and I have always had this strange connection like that. Neither of us really believe in stuff like ESP and all that crap but it is strange how we often times have the same things going through our minds and how well we can read each other when we have never met or spoken over a phone.
That brings me to number four. A letter that was received in the mail from our property management co. It said that we were three months behind in our dues and if we didn't get our account current by the end of the month, legal action would be taken. URRRRGGGGHHHH? That got the immediate "What the fuck is this shit?" response from me. I had my bank records, checkbook, and phone dialed in two seconds flat ready to rip somebody a new asshole I was so TORKED. Well, wouldn't you know, the woman who answers the phone is like 70 years old (family business yee haw) and basically tells me that she didn't see the letter even though it had her name on it (I guess she lets others sign her name without looking things over) but it was sent out in error. Well no shit! My biggest beef aside from the unnecessary "harassment" of it is that not only could the person who did type it up not add, this company doesn't double check shit. What made me laugh was that this woman told me that she thought it could have something to do with a computer not updating overnight like it should. Uh....scuse me but if that were the case, I would think in order to show us that far behind, it would mean that hunk of junk hasn't updated three months. Oh well, at least it was easily sorted out but not before I heard this woman's life story. LOL There was a plus side, I talked to her about the whole snow removal thing. I told her I sent a letter with our last payment but I think that fell on deaf ears because I know they received our payment but I have yet to get a response. She said she would address the issue with the woman the letter was addressed to so we'll see if any action is actually taken.
The last event was hopefully something which can be considered positive. Unfortunately I can't give the details but if it is what we are thinking it is, it will be something along the lines of "sweet revenge"
Otay kiddies, I've got to run so I can go watch some ice cubes melt before Red Dwarf comes on - SMEG! lol
