Why I am hesitant about having automatic withdraws taken from my account
Ant and I decided as a way to help streamline bill paying, we would have our house payment automatically deducted from our checking account. Before that, we were paying the bill online but we actually had to log in every month to set it up for payment. With things like that out of sight out of mind, it can lead to forgetfulness which is why we went ahead and decided to have it done automatically. Things had been going along just dandy until last night when I went in to have a look over our account. Wells Fargo was kind enough to withdraw an extra $317.25 from our account without our authorization. I've never been overly thrilled with this bank and was even less excited about them when I saw their latest trick. When I saw what they had done, I told Anthony, "Someone is going to get their ass beat!"
This morning I called their customer service line and spoke to some drugged up sounding woman named Linda. Lemme tell ya some of these people I swear are dumber than a door knob. I explained to her what the situation was and asked why on Earth they decided to take it upon themselves to snatch an extra 300 bucks this past month when they processed our payment. After she interrogated me with her "security" questions and drew some blood, her reply was, "The extra amount was applied towards the principal." Well no shit lady I can see that online. I didn't ask WHERE is was applied, I asked WHY it was kidnapped in the first place. Ok, so maybe I wasn't that rude with my wording but I was getting a little irritated by that point. At first I thought I was going to have a bit of a fight to get our money back but it ended up I didn't thank God. Although I was in the mood for a good ass whipping, starting the work week off like that is no way to go.
I found out that the reason WF did what they did was because when I had our escrow account removed from our mortgage (why give them extra money every month so they can earn the interest rather than us?) someone forgot to adjust the payment amount for the first payment of the year. Whomever adjusted all the others, but not that one. Since there was no escrow account for that money to go into, WF decided they would just take it and apply it to the principal of our loan without asking rather than giving us the option of refunding us the money - BASTARDS! You can bet your ass that we weren't about to let them get away with doing that. I know, it would be that much more off the amount we owe right but really, it's more the principle of the matter than anything. Banks shouldn't just be allowed to take their customers' money they aren't entitled to in the first place and do with it what they please. Even though the woman acted a little put out over my request for a credit, she pushed it through and was even nice enough to call me back to let me know that it went through.
Check is in the mail today - or so "Wells Fartgo" says it is.
Catchya later kiddies...
