Look Ma - No cavities!
After work today, I got to go to the dentist for my six month cleaning/check up. Once the hygienist got done with her cleaning, the man himself came over to have a look. When he walks up to me, he asks me what is new and tells me that I look different. I tell him I don't know how. He goes through the usual, hair and weight routine and I said that my hair was a bit shorter but that was about it. Then I remembered, I had my new sweater on that I got in NYC so I said, "Oh, I have a new shirt on!". He laughed and said, "That's it!" The guy totally cracks me up which is something that I never thought I would say about a dentist. You see when I was a child, I was terrified of the dentist mainly because the one that I had at that time was not very good with children especially those like me who were chickens to begin with. When I first went to the guy I see now, it was out of desperation as I had a tooth which broke and it had to be fixed by a root canal. My mom had this done before and from what she told me, I was certainly NOT looking forward to it. I ended up getting so worked up about it that the first time I went to have the work done, I ended up bawling and not having anything done. Even the gas didn't help to calm me down.
The next time I went in (about a week later), I took my ex-boyfriend with whom I was still really good friends with me to make sure I got done what needed to be done. I was nervous as hell but I did get through it. Amazingly enough, the dentist was true to his word about it not hurting too! I didn't even need the pain killers he gave me a prescription for once the novocaine wore off. The dentist I had when I was a child would always say, "It won't hurt." or, "That doesn't hurt." and let me tell you it hurt like hell! ASSHOLE! How dare he tell such lies.
This dentist experience was SOOOO much different than anything I had ever experienced before and I can't say how happy I am that I was able to find this guy. These days I no longer dread walking into such offices and it is such a wonderful feeling! What makes it even better is that this particular dentist accepts the HMO insurance my company offers so it only costs me $4/month in order for routine check ups and minor work to be done. :)
